Dichiarazione di Valore in Loco (Degree Validation)

To have your British qualifications recognised in Italy, whether to continue your studies (school/University), or for work purposes, you will need to contact the relevant Italian Consulate, who will issue a “Dichiarazione di Valore” (DV).

This is a declaration whereby the Consulate confirms the value of the qualifications attained in Great Britain, with reference to the local educational system.

The Qualifications Office of the Consulate of Italy in Manchester only issues “Dichiarazioni di Valore” (Declarations of Value, DV) of British qualifications – issued by recognised educational institutions (schools, colleges and universities) or professional bodies – that fall under the British education/university system ni its Consular district: Cheshire County, Cumbria, Derbyshire, Durham, East Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Merseyside, North Yorkshire, Northumberland, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Shropshire, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Tyne and Wear, West Midlands, West Yorkshire and the Isle of Man.

The Consulate General of Italy in London is competent for those qualifications obtained in their catchment area and includes: Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Bristol, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, City of London, Cornwall, Devon. Dorset, East Sussex, Essex, Gloucestershire, Greater London, Hampshire, Herefordshire, Hertfordshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Somerset, Suffolk, Surrey, Warwickshire, West Sussex, Wiltshire e Worcestershire, Galles, Isole Normanne, Gibilterra e i Territori della Georgia del Sud e delle Sandwich Australi.

Scotland and Northern Ireland qualifications fall within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General in Edinburgh.

The “Declaration of Valure” is neither an equivalent of an Italian qualification nor a comparability certificate.

It will be up to the relevant Italian institutions (Ministry of Education, Uffici Scolastici Provinciali, Universities, etc.) to subsequently declare if a foreign qualification has a similar Italian equivalent: this is called “equipollenza” (equivalence/certificate of comparability).

It is possible to ask CIMEA (Information Centre on Academic Mobility and Equivalence) for a Statement of Comparability and a Statement of Verification for your academic and non-academic qualifications https://www.cimea.it/EN/pagina-attestati-di-comparabilita-e-verifica-dei-titoli.

The above mentioned Statements from CIMEA are accepted by Universities https://www.cimea.it/EN/pagina-attestati-universita and by numerous Institutions (recognition procedure for public competition, Pension related reasons etc) https://www.cimea.it/EN/pagina-riconoscimento-non-accademico.

Please note that the “Declaration of Value” can only be requested for already-completed study cycles (e.g., A-level, Bachelor, Master, etc.).

Recognition of Italian qualifications in the United Kingdom

Those who need to have their Italian qualifications recognised in the UK need to contact ENIC https://www.enic.org.uk/.
