ELIMINATION OF POSTAL ORDERS AND CASH

No cash policy

Starting from 1 January 2025, the Consulate of Italy in Manchester will eliminate the use of cash at the counter and postal orders for postal applications. The purpose is to reduce the fees applied for the postal orders, facilitate and speed up payment operations, and increase security for our applicants, due to the minimization of cash and  and the traceability of transactions. In particular:

– applications submitted by post (for example for passports, certificates, etc.) will no longer have to be accompanied by a postal order: once the application is assessed and approved, the Consulate will request directly from the user a payment by bank transfer;

– payments at the counter will be only available with British Debit Cards (no international cards, no credit cards, no American Express), and will include any relevant bank commission.

Applications submitted with a postal order by the end of 2024 will be regularly processed, as happens with the current procedures.
