ACQUISITION OF CITIZENSHIP BY “BENEFICIO DI LEGGE” (EX. ART. 1, PARAGRAPH 1-TER, DECREE-LAW 28 MARCH 2025, NO. 36): EXTENSION OF THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF DECLARATIONS TO 31 MAY 2029.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Following the publication of Law No. 26, 28^TH February 2026, containing urgent provisions regarding statutory deadlines (the so-called “milleproroghe”), the legal deadline established under Article 1, paragraph 1-ter, of Decree-Law of 28 March 2025, No. 36, has been extended from 31 ^TH May 2026 to 31 ^TH May 2029.

The relevant section of the website has been updated accordingly to reflect the new legislation. Furthermore, starting today, 3 March 2026, applications pursuant to Article 1, paragraph 1-ter, of Decree-Law 28 March 2025 must be submitted exclusively by post, by sending all required documentation to our Citizenship Office (please refer to the dedicated webpage CITIZENSHIP – Consolato d’Italia a Manchester).
