Codice Fiscale is a code issued by the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) to identify individuals in their relations with public administrations and private entities in Italy.
Non-EU citizens who intend to stay in Italy cannot apply through the Consulate. Their tax code is assigned either:
- For those applying for a residence permit for employment or family reunification: by the competent Immigration Desk (Sportello Unico per l’Immigrazione);
- For those applying for other types of residence permits: by the competent Police Headquarters (Questura).
A foreign citizen resident in the consular district of Manchester can only apply for a tax code through this Consulate if it is required for an online procedure (other than those listed above), or if they are unable to appoint a representative in Italy.
To request a tax code for an adult, please submit:
- Request form (ITA – ENG) filled out and hand-signed;
- Copy of your valid passport (page with photo and signature);
- Proof of your UK residential address (e.g. utility bill, NHS or bank letter, Council tax);
- Proof of the reason why the tax code cannot be requested through a representative in Italy, or of the online procedure that needs a tax code;
- A copy of your birth certificate (with translation, if it is not in Italian or English);
- If you tick the box “request for a tax code card” on the form, you must also enclose a pre-addressed and pre-paid special delivery envelope. Without this, the card will not be requested or sent.
To request a tax code for a minor, please submit:
- Request form (ITA – ENG) filled out and hand-signed;
- Copy of the valid passport (photo and signature page) of both the minor and the adult submitting the request;
- Proof of the UK residential address of the applicant (e.g. utility bill, NHS or bank letter, Council tax);
- Proof of the reason why the tax code cannot be requested through a representative in Italy, or of the online procedure that needs a tax code;
- A copy of the minor’s birth certificate (with translation, if it is not in Italian or English);
- If the adult is not listed as a parent on the birth certificate, please include a document proving the legal right to act on behalf of the minor;
- If you tick the box “request for a tax code card” on the form, you must also enclose a pre-addressed and pre-paid special delivery envelope. Without this, the card will not be requested or sent.
If the name and surname on the passport differ from those on the birth certificate, you must provide a copy of a deed poll or marriage certificate justifying the discrepancy.
