If an\u00a0Italian citizen<\/strong> dies abroad, the event must be registered in the Italian civil registry. The death of foreign citizens must also be registered, if they were married or in a civil partnership with an Italian citizen who is still alive.<\/p>\n

The death certificate can be submitted directly to the deceased person’s Comune AIRE<\/em><\/strong><\/span> (or,\u00a0if the deceased was a foreign national, to the Comune AIRE <\/i>of their Italian spouse). Please note that in this case, you should follow the instructions provided by the Comune<\/em> and the Consulate cannot certify the accuracy of the translation.<\/p>\n

Alternatively, if the deceased person resided in our consular district<\/a>, the application for registration may be made through the Consulate<\/strong><\/span>. An application can be made by posting <\/strong>the documents listed below to:<\/p>\n
