Two parents, of whom at least one is an Italian citizen residing in the United Kingdom for at least two continuous years and AIRE-registered with this Consulate, who have adopted a foreign minor, may submit a request through this Consulate to the competent Tribunale per i Minorenni (Minors Court, the one in the place of the couple’s place of last residence or, if it is not possible to determine the last residence, the one in Rome) to request the declaration of effectiveness in Italy of the British adoption order.
Once the effectiveness is declared, the adoption order will be registered and the minor will acquire Italian citizenship.
To apply, the following documents are required:
- application form, completed but not signed (it needs to be signed before a consular representative);
- proof of residence of the Italian parent (or parents) in Manchester consular district;
- full birth certificate of the adopted child, legalized and translated (Legalisations, apostilles and translations), issued before the British adoption order: if the adopted minor was born in the United Kingdom, a full birth certificate is required; otherwise, a certificate from the country of origin is needed;
- full British birth certificate, apostillized and translated (Legalisations, apostilles and translations);
- British adoption decree, apostillized and translated (Legalisations, apostilles and translations ).

Once the documentation has been verified, applicants will be summoned to certify the translations and their signature on the application. Both spouses must attend with a valid photo ID (passport or ID card). This service is free of charge.
